Hoya Hope
If it’s an adult plant with some branches, salvage healthful stems and repot them in a sterile airy mixture. However, in the event that you feel the roots are as well cramped or that the plant is becoming slow raising or that water isn’t draining properly, you may want to repot the plant carefully.
- WHAT KIND OF SCENTS that plants offer up please you, or don’t?
- I’m definitely excited to see how it develops.
- Fellow garden writer Ken Druse and I have known each other through many gardening seasons, like about 30.
- My father loved Hoyas and had quite a few of them growing inside our residence greenhouse in Connecticut.
- To be able to be really brutal you can do two as well as all three of the stems at the same time but that way you’re risking everything as the plant might just keel over and die.
Holloway’s effectiveness inspires a modicum of expect growth for this team. One of the highly sought-out indoor plant life, peperomia hope requires some pruning.

Provide them with bright, indirect light source, humidity and a light touch when it comes to watering. Work with a potting mix that allows for good air circulation round the roots. Whatever you use don’t fertilize houseplants in late fall or wintertime because that’s their time for sleep. Over-fertilizing your Hoyas will cause salts to build up & can shed the roots of the plant. Be sure to keep away from fertilizing a houseplant that is stressed, ie. Hoya have already been popular house plants for many years and with good reason.
- That is how they are stimulated to cultivate more – by being cut back.
- I propagated a cutting of the using the hummus tub technique, thanks to Sally Williams for highlighting that outstanding technique for me, and it worked really well because of this plant.
- So just take care on the watering facet and make sure it is well drained, but this is one of my absolute favourites and I wouldn’t be without that particular Hoya.

- Give it a light-weight balanced fertilizer to boost the NPK levels for a few weeks.
- I must say, up to now, I haven’t done particularly well with them.
I think a lot of people think only cacti grow here. Don’t prune off the new side development because that’s where the flowers form. When grown indoor Hoyas can be susceptible to mealybugs. These bright, cotton-like pests prefer to hang out in the nodes & under the leaves.
A saucer with gravel and water also provides humidity as the water evaporates. Misting with room-temperature drinking water also helps but avoid spraying the flowers. Water frequently with room-temperature water, springtime through summer. Let the top coating of soil dry out between watering. In the tumble and winter growth in a natural way slows down plus they won’t use just as much water. Water sparingly during drop and winter, give them sufficient that the soil doesn’t dry out completely. For layering you merely have a softwood stem of the plant & pin it into a pot filled up with light mix.
I have a relatively short commute but I listened each day, to and from job, all winter long. I honestly believe listening to all the garden and plant chat made the wintertime glide by also it was shorter than usual! I was inspired by all the authors and guest audio speakers, checked out all their books and have grand plans for my own garden this spring. My yard is much smaller than yours but it is a refuge for me just the same. Thank you for all of your inspiration and knowledge. Peperomias Hope is a superb plant to have for those who have small spaces.
I thoroughly appreciated your transcript with Ken Druse. I had never heard about a Hoya plant before, but I’m hooked now.
[newline]Easy does it – 1/4 to 1/2″ layer of each for an inferior sized plant. Read about myworm compost/compost feedingright here. Mine grows at a modest to slow amount indoors. In the winter needless to say the growth slows down.

This originates from Malaysia and again, if you want a small-growing plant, in that case that is another one that would be ideal for you. Wennström and Stenman within their book, which I shall put a link to in the exhibit notes, recommend putting this in a shallow large dish or pot since it has quite a scrambling method of growing.
