Our ex vivo studies demonstrated that HA levels in the epidermis and dermis of UVA-exposed skin were boosted by 70.1 and 83.6%, respectively. Additionally, NC-treated skin had not been only smoother, a direct reflection of its restorative effect on the skin barrier, but also more homogenous, with fewer less UV and brown spots. Niacinamide is thought to be central to this effect by blocking the transfer of melanin-containing melanosomes from melanocytes to keratinocytes .
Erythema and feelings of discomfort were also reduced, likely, at least in part, as a result of anti-inflammatory action of niacinamide and the matricins peptide palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 . NC also includes an extract of the Mediterranean flowering plant Helichrysum italicum which includes been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity and also photoprotective effects .
