What do you use a 30mm lens for?
I’d rather have either of the than this Sigma, even at exactly the same price, because I must say i prefer camera brand lenses over losing 2/3 to one stop. Nikon stopped making the extraordinary Nikkor 28mm f/1.4 AF in 2005 and the prices have since skyrocketed to about $3,000 second-hand. (Luckily I grabbed a used one cheap back 1999.) The Nikon 28mm f/1.4 works great on film cameras while the Sigma won’t.
- They can make the horizon look curved, or in the event that you tilt the camera could make vertical lines point inwards.
- The Sigma 30mm ƒ/2.8 DN “Art” can be acquired for both Sony E-mount and Micro Four Thirds cameras.
- Mr. Kawai in the shot on the left may be the 4th-generation chef.

Personally I don’t like 50mm normal lenses such as this. Typical for lenses with aspherical elements, out of focus points of light in the corners can acquire bizarre shapes. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 usually renders points of light behind the subject in the far corners as a cross between a U and a V. This isn’t that important. Assuming you have a Nikon D40 or D40x, this is your lens because Nikon makes no lenses faster than f/2.8 which autofocus with a D40/x. If you need a full f/1.4 in a standard focal length for a small-format camera, could work around some repeatable autofocus inaccuracy and want to spend about $400, that is your lens. And don’t forget which you can use lenses even though you’re mostly a smartphone photographer.
Video so clean and smooth it rivals real life and elevates the look and feel of camera movement. And for the 1st time in a Full-frame/FX format ultra-wide lens, the creative and practical flexibility of attachable filters. The possibilities are as wide-reaching as the 14-30mm field of view. I have been by using this lens on my pentax k-01 for over 3 weeks now. I’ve tried 90% of my shots in very low light merely to put this through the ringer. It does struggle when focus distance is under 2 feet. Sometimes I have to go manual to obtain it to target very close.
the most sense. The 30mm crops right down to like Edit 45mm on a crop sensor. Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon’s term because of its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses. My actual question is, for a lanscape panorma, whether 30mm lens is too wide and 45mm good enough or 30mm is a MUST for such taking such grand panorama. Our latest reviews are available on Mirrorless Comparison and YouTube. Thanks to SIGMA maintaining compatibility across film and digital it can be used in combination with modern cameras and film .
I acquired it specifically because of the 1.4mm aperture, and the not-too-long focal length, with the intention of Milky Way photography. I’ve got a few I’m quite happy with, but this month I’m deploying it every day for everything (Pentax Forums “Single In December” challenge), and it’s really great. I’m even birding with it, 😉 You should definitely too spacious it’s almost ridiculously sharp. I’ve taken several landscapes, good for low light indoor events, some portrait work and anytime I don’t require a longer focal length lens. Framing just like a 48mm lens on a full-frame body, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM Lens is as close to a classic 50mm lens as 1.6x body users will get. Sigma’s HSM internal autofocus
- Both Sony 28mm f2 and Sigma 30mm 1.4 are known for distortion.
- Regular filterscause no additional light fall-off problems.
- These issues are subtle, but potentially disturbing.
The X-pan is basically a mirrorless camera, and the lenses made for it sit very close to the film plane , whereas the V body has to accommodate the mirror. A6300, 1/160, f/9, ISO 200The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is an extremely good deal standard lens for the Sony E-mount system.
It generally locks swiftly, even yet in dimmer light. I had several focus misses with this particular lens, though, that is a bit odd for a mirrorless lens, though it didn’t appear to occur that often. I didn’t really get a chance to thoroughly test continuous AF performance, but in the limited work I did so with it, it appeared to do fine. The lens also is with the capacity of focusing very closely. The minimum focus distance of just 0.3m allows for some good close-up capabilities for shooting things such as flowers.
By all means test it out for, but only from the retailer with a decent returns policy. The lens hood is reasonable, but when reversed there is a gap between it and the lens body. A flower/petal design would be more compact, at the cost of protuding more forwards when mounted. I don’t recall if I used any filters or what vignetting they might cause, however the lens hood permits good access. The hood may be useful for photography, but the shape and design makes it mostly vestigial for video work. Some people prefer to put it on to protect the front element in case of a fall.
