Hoyas are attractive trailing plants that have waxy thick leaves and long tendrils. This is simply not a starter or perhaps a rooted cutting. The plant that you will get is large with penduncles and has a long teandril at least 14″ long. Hoya obovata prefers bright, indirect light but can handle partial shade. Each blossom will last about 2 weeks and future blooms will grow from the spur left behind. In late spring and into fall clusters of 20 to 25 star-shaped flowers form on a brief peduncle.
In winter, water sparingly giving the plant sufficient to help keep the soil from blow drying completely. Hoya obovata is one of our very favorite specimen plants. It has large, deep green oval-shaped leaves, often splashed with flecks of pink and white. Over time, the plant grows long vines and eventually sweet-smelling flowers that look like little clusters of pink stars. Hoya obovata will happily climb up a stake or trellis, or set your pot in a hanger or on high shelf and let the vines cascade.

The main element difference is that the leaves on an over-watered Hoya have a limp appearance while those on an under-watered one are dry and brittle. Once you’re able to pinpoint the cause of your wilted leaves, adjust your watering schedule accordingly. The most common pests that may attack your obovata are mealybugs, whiteflies, and scale insects.
